Seasons of the Self: A Year-End Elemental Retreat with Kimberly Kwa & Tan York Cheng

  • Yoga Seeds Shala 1384 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 Singapore, 569932 Singapore (map)

Join Kimberly Kwa and Tan York Cheng from In Mindful Company in a day-long retreat at Yoga Seeds.

As the year draws to a quiet close, we invite you to retreat into the stillness of your inner world — a space to reflect, release, and realign with nature’s cycles.

Seasons of the Self is a day-long elemental retreat inspired by the nourishing cycle of the Five Elements in Chinese Metaphysics. Rooted in ancient wisdom and guided by embodied practices, this retreat is designed to help you reconnect with your inner landscape through the lens of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

Each element mirrors a facet of your being — physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual — and reveals a unique rhythm within you. Through mindful movement, self-inquiry, and reflection, we explore how these elemental energies live in our natal charts and influence our personal practices.

Together, we will gently move through each phase of the cycle:

Wood – Hatha Yoga Practice
Awaken the energy of growth and possibility. Connect with the clarity of vision and purposeful movement through a grounding hatha session that channels Wood’s expansive quality.

Fire – BaZi Talk & Elemental Understanding
Explore the dynamic dance of Yin & Yang, and how the Five Elements shape your personal BaZi (birth chart). Discover the elemental energies that resonate most deeply with you, and how to nourish them.

Earth – Mindful Eating & Walking Meditation
Root into the steady rhythm of the Earth element through grounding, embodied practices. We’ll share a light, thoughtfully prepared lunch - catered in part by a community-based kitchen supporting meaningful local initiatives, as an invitation to slow down, savour each bite, and connect with care and intention. A walking meditation practice will follow, deepening your connection to the nourishment, stillness, and quiet wisdom of the Earth.

Metal – Reflective Art Journalling
Tune in to the energy of letting go and inner refinement. A guided art journalling process will support quiet contemplation, helping you give form to your insights, intentions, and inner truths. The session culminates in a one-of-a-kind piece of art to take home — a meaningful keepsake and visual representation of your inner clarity for the year ahead.

Water – Yin Yoga Practice
Close the day in softness and surrender. Water invites deep rest, reflection, and inner flow. A nourishing yin session with sound healing will help restore your energy and honour the wisdom of the year that was.

Throughout the retreat, you’ll be gently supported to work with the elements that resonate most with your unique constitution. Whether you’re seeking balance, inspiration, or clarity, this retreat offers a safe space to realign with your inner rhythm as the year turns.

No prior experience required. Just bring your curiosity, openness, and willingness to explore.

About Kimberly Kwa

Kim is a certified yoga teacher (E-RYT500) and mindfulness facilitator with a background in performing arts education, technical production, and design. Her practice is rooted in the belief that healing begins with awareness, and that the body holds the wisdom needed for transformation. A personal journey through chronic stress and burnout drew her to the restorative possibilities of yoga and mindfulness, and continues to shape her integrative approach to wellbeing.

Her sessions are grounded in presence, curiosity, and a deep respect for the body’s natural intelligence. Drawing from training in yoga therapy, trauma-aware practices, Functional Range Conditioning (FRC), and therapeutic bodywork, she encourages attunement to breath and sensation—creating space to explore movement, or stillness, in ways that support nervous system regulation and the unfolding of embodied resilience.

Whether through group or private yoga classes, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programmes, or immersive workshops and retreats, Kim offers a gentle invitation to slow down, listen to what the body needs, and meet yourself where you are—with kindness and compassion.

About Tan York Cheng

York Cheng is an educator and mindfulness practitioner with over 15 years of experience in youth development, mentorship, and curriculum design. Her mindfulness journey began during a time of deep personal challenge — balancing a demanding career, part-time studies, and caregiving for her late father. These experiences, along with the loss of a close colleague, awakened in her a profound appreciation for mindfulness as a path toward healing, resilience, and renewal.

Currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Gerontology, York integrates Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) principles into her life and work to cultivate presence, emotional well-being, and awareness. She is passionate about making mindfulness accessible to people from all walks of life and creating spaces where reflection and growth can unfold naturally.

Her exploration of Chinese metaphysics began as a personal search for clarity through the ancient wisdom of BaZi, FengShui and YiJing, which later evolved into a practice of guiding others toward self-understanding and alignment with life’s natural cycles.

By bringing together mindfulness and Chinese metaphysics, York offers a gentle, complementary approach to reflection and reconnection. Through movement, self-inquiry, and elemental awareness, she creates a grounded space to realign with nature’s rhythm — to pause, release, and return to what truly nourishes the spirit.
